Samsung LN32B360 Review

This new model has been out since March 2009, and this is the just released ‘B’ version of the popular Samsung ‘A’ version 32-inch HDTV, basing on many reviews. I was searching for a TV with a first-rate value for a 32-inch LCD with a great picture and sound system. The picture is actually more than satisfying with the standard setting and really striking at the dynamic setting, provided that the room has enough light. In the store, it did look a bit better than Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S5100 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV though that one is a 1080p TV. I tried to compare the two models for a while at the store because I tried to convince myself to go for 1080p but didn’t accomplish since the picture seemed better even at 720p. If I could, I would have bought the Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV which looked the best though for a 32 inch overall.

Samsung LN32B360 Viewing Angle

From my tests for viewing angle, sadly the Samsung LN32B360 had a unsatisfactory result. What we found was that the high contrast ratio that it is capable of managing quickly decreased when viewed from even a small angle (at only 17 degrees); the contrast ratio has fallen by 50 percentages. On the contrary, LG 32LG40 had a much better performance with a much wider viewing angle; the contrast ratio dropped by 50 percent at an impressive 55 degrees from straight on. When we changed to test at a 45-degree angle, the contrast ratio of Samsung LN32B360 dropped dramatically to 100:1; this means that the images were awfully washed out and pale. What’s more, at wider angles, we also discovered that the reds took on a distinct yellowish cast. Abovementioned, it means that the Samsung LN32B360 wouldn’t be a good choice for group viewing TV; those sitting on the edges of the group would see only a pale simulation of what the others sitting in the center were seeing. Comparing the viewing angle of it with other TVs’, we can say that it is the smallest of them all by a considerable amount.

Samsung LN32B360 720p vs. 1080p LCD TV

For me, I don’t see why a 1080p HDTV would make a difference with this size of TV as I sit for like nine feet away and at that distance I’m pretty sure you couldn’t tell. At least, I think the PC input is small and sharp enough that I can read web pages easily from my sofa, but if it was smaller, I believe it would be too small or too detailed. In my opinion, I don’t think I use more than 720p detail except I planned to see more web page content on the screen and to sit just 4 feet away from the screen. This TV has exactly the same resolution as Toshiba Satellite U305-S2804 13.3-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) which is what I connected into the PC input and looks identical to that screen. Not to mention that most Hi Def inputs to my TV aren’t more than 720p anyway. I think one over the air station is 1080i.

Samsung LN32B460 Overall

LN32B360 is a great choice for those who just want to watch TV and nothing else much. Its performance is superb; I would say it is comparable to more pricey TVs. Also, its design is very simple but stylish at the same time. The cons are first, that it doesn’t provide you with many ways to connect to multiple devices (it has only two HDMI and one component video inputs), so you wouldn’t have many choices. Second, it’s only a 720p display; therefore, you wouldn’t get the best performance out of a high definition device like a Blu-ray player. However, if what you want a second HDTV or just one or two video sources, then the Samsung LN32B360 would be perfect for your choice. With the price at only $399 for a 32-inch screen, it’s definitely a great value of money.
